A Lesson in History, EVA HISTORY
Common knowledge states that the Second Impact ocured on Mount Markham in Antartica on September 13, 2000. Reshaping the globe as we know it, the near nuclear holocauste effect of the impact caused the melting of the nothern ice caps. Therefore, the sea level rose an astounding 60 meters. All continents across the face of the Earth graveled to the this awesome natural phenomenon as entire coastlines were engulfed along with all their inhabitant cities. Over an estimated 2 billion people were killed by the towering tsunamies that primarily beseiged the southern hemisphere. The events to follow would only clame even more lives.
The nations of the northern hemisphere also suffered severe damaged from the flooding and chaos ensued. Two days after fall of the meteorite, on September 15, 2000, collisions between refugees sparked a war on the Indian-Pakistan border, and armed conflicts began all over the world. On September 20, a N-bomb was dropped on Tokyo and 500,000 people were killed. Until the Valentine Cease-Fire was signed on Febuary 14, 2001, hostilities continued all over the world.
The Temporary Government of Japan gave up on restoring the Tokyo that had been destroyed by the N-bomb, and the decision was made to transfer the capital to Matsumoto City in Nagano. Construction on Tokyo 2 begain in 2001. Redevelopment proceeded rapidly, and by early 2003, Tokyo 2 was fulfilling its function as the capital.
In 2005, a second transfer of authority was approved by [Japanese] Congress. Tokyo 3 was built in Fuji-Hakone, at the base of Mt. Fuji-san, where the presence of a so-called "Geofront" was found, identical to the one found in Antartica years before by the Katsuragi reasurch team. Kyoto, also marked on the map, is where Professor Fuyuzukii tought (Kyoto University), and where Misato, Ritsuko and Kaji studied. NOTE: The map just above shows pre-Second Impact Japan. As a result of the rise in sea level, the actual coast line was engulfed by water (mostly the greenish regions of the map).
After the succes of the Instrumentality Project and the reinsurance of the survival of the human race, NERV (the organisation headed by Comander Ikari that implemented the project) found itself center stage in front of all the nations. In order to keep the leek of information at bay, Tokyo-3 was secretly used as a dummy scene. All the while, the contenants of the Geofront was transported to the ruined/flooded Nagoya. The previous 3 years a replication of Tokyo-3 and it's respective Geofront had been in the making at the Nagoya site, perfect for such a grande operation.
The integrity of NERV was upheld. The true guardians of the world had been kept a great conspiracy once again. Now, NERV can finish implementing the true nature of the Instrumentality Project and the ultimate prevention of the Human Complemention Plan.
